The first weekend in August will see the GreazeFest Kustom Kulture Festival take place at Davies Park in West End (Aug 1, 2, 3). Now in its ninth year, the annual GreazeFest has become a celebration and a yearly pilgrimage for kustom kulture fans from all parts of the globe.

Kustom Kulture is a term that describes chopped and dropped lead sleds, open top jalopies and fender-less hot rods, often laboured on by passionate DIY enthusiasts.

The multi-faceted festival embraces hot rods, haircuts, tattoos, rockabilly music, jive dancing, low brow art culture, metal-flake paint jobs and retro fashions. GreazeFest is where all generations gather to celebrate Kustom Kulture “the movement that hails the lowered”.

The jam-packed weekend includes:

19 live bands and djs over three days - Hot Rod Show - Hot Rod Street Cruise - An all-ages day - Kitten Katwalk Fashion Parade - Art Exhibits - Markets - and much more

“What started as an underground festival, the GreazeFest has flourished into a colourful and unique weekender with an easy-going vibe that larger festivals can only dream about.”

“The blue skies of Brisbane made a perfect day for strolling around, looking at the hot rods, while checking out all the great bands.”

“The core crowd gathers from all parts of Australia, New Zealand, America, England and Japan.”

“Kustom kulture fans are committed and active - they make a huge effort in how they dress, they drive extraordinary cars, they decorate their bodies in sensational tattoos and they enjoy live music.”

“GreazeFest has convinced my 12 year old daughter that I have more fun that she does!”

“I feel so lucky we have something this awesome in Brisbane.”

“Who needs overseas acts when we have such a great wealth of talent in Australia.”

Live Music Highlights

The Detonators (Vic)
Known as the high priests of roots rock ‘n’ roll, the multi-award winning Detonators were formed in 1997 and have since released four studio albums and a new live album ‘Live at the East’ (BMM). Enhancing their live reputation by aggressive touring, this quartet have toured their original blend of door slammin', rubber burning rock’n’roll across Australia and overseas. ‘The Dets’ have earned a status as one of Australia’s most hard working, rockin' roots bands.

Doug Wilshire & The Tailspinners (Q)
Many people would remember Doug Wilshire who fronted the Chrome Daddies for many years. His new outfit The Tailspinners hit the ground running at the start of 2008 and they are fast developing a following of rockers keen to reconnect with that Chrome Daddies’ magic. The Tailspinners resurrect rockabilly and hillbilly classics plus Wilshire originals. Album ‘Love In Disguise’ Doug Wilshire 2004 (Rhythm Bomb)

The Vaudevillains (Vic)
This newly formed rockabilly trio have quickly built a reputation as a talented and energetic band. The trio has scored supports for touring acts Nekromantix and Tiger Army and they’re heading to Brisbane for an exclusive show at GreazeFest. Debut ep ‘Vaudevillain Nights’ (indie).

Bone Rattlers (Tas)
Hailing from one of the underrated live music states in Australia, the Bone Rattlers have established a following of old school greasers and young psycho punks who are all hip to their dirty edged rockabilly sound. Debut ep ‘Step Inside’ (indie).

Checkered Fist (NSW)
Checkered Fist is a trio of juveniles who are commanding attention everywhere they play. These kids - Julian (lead guitar, 15), Jake (drums, 14), and Damon (double bass, 11) - are in no way a novelty act, they play well, write their own songs and have released a debut ep ‘Where Society Leads Us’ (indie).

Warren Earl & The Atomic Rockers (Q)
Warren Earl describes his music as “heavily influenced by 1950's rockabilly, hillbilly boogie and western swing”. In 2007, Earl released his debut cd, ‘Original Rockabilly’ (indie), writing all the songs and playing every instrument. The multi-talented Earl recently made a permanent move to Brisbane and established an exciting and talented band, the Atomic Rockers.

Miss Teresa & Her Rhythmaires (Q)
Miss Teresa is Australia's foremost female rockabilly singer. Miss Teresa sings revved up rockabilly classics and isn't afraid to crank up the pace with sizzling fillybilly tunes from the 1950s. The Rhythmaires feature Dangerous Dan on guitar, Jon Flynn on double bass and Coojee Timms on skins.
